Fall Party Ideas

My daughter-in-law Katie hosts the most splendid parties. Her personal touch on everything makes each celebration so special. From the invitations to the take-home party favor, she plans right down to the last detail.

I wanted to share her ideas with you because this time of year offers wonderful opportunities to decorate for a party, and I’m fortunate that my birthday is included in this beautiful season. The fall colors just excite me beyond words. There is nothing more gorgeous than the bright oranges and brilliant reds of autumn.

The mailbox had a beautiful floral swag draped over it to welcome her guests. The centerpieces were real pumpkins with a container in the center that held the fall blossoms, and autumn leaves topped a scrumptious cake, too. She made a wonderful chicken orzo salad; I asked her for the recipe, and she told me it came from a friend’s blog.

  1. Hi, what a nice article. I’m also going to a quilt retreat in May and our theme is high heels and tiaras. I would love to have the shoe cookie cutter to make cookies. Where can I purchase it?

  3. How lovely! It sounds lije a delightful gathering. Thank you tor sharing this private moment with us…Happy Birthday Phyllis!

  4. Beautiful decorations…I love fall…Katie’s attention to details is impressive and the cake…stunning! I think the cookie favours are a great idea and you can use any shape to go with the theme of the party…I will try teacup cookies for my next tea party.

  5. I would love to hear about the take-home favors. I often need ideas for favors. This time I need favors for a quilt retreat. We have around 70 women attending and need low-cost ideas.

      1. The Ohio Valley Quilt Guild sponsors a spring and fall retreat at General Butler State Park in Kentucky. We have had as many as 80 women attend. We have doorprizes and play games like “Left, Right, Center” for fat quarters of fabric or other small prizes. You can eat when you get hungry and sew 24 hours a day for 4 days. No laundry! No interruptions! We have a ball!

    1. Daffodil bulbs are wonderful to use as favors. If you have a Sam’s Club or Cosco in your area, they usually have bags of 100 bulbs. You can put 2 or 3 bulbs in little clear treat bags (available in the candy section of craft stores) and tie with a pretty ribbon and you have a special favor. Your event can be remembered in the spring when they bloom.
