The Study Bible for Women

Phyllis Inspiration 111 Comments

In my travels, I get to meet the most interesting people. I am often invited to speak at various women’s organizations and ministry groups, and it gives me an opportunity to really connect with the readers of our magazines. I get to meet new friends and visit with dear friends from my past. It is amazing the accomplishments of women who are making a difference in the lives of others.

Dorothy Patterson is a women who really amazes me. Dorothy is a homemaker, popular speaker, and successful writer and editor. One of the most amazing undertakings that she has just completed is editing The Study Bible for Women. She is a professor of theology of women’s studies at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. “Women indeed are making their mark in theological circles—and not giving up their femininity and love of family and home to do so,” Dorothy says. I totally agree with her, and as I joyfully received my copy of the new study Bible, I was so happy to see such a beautiful Bible with feminine touches. The colors of the ink and paper are lovely. I just love mine.

“A team of more than 100 scholars from 17 denominations pursued two ideals with every translation decision: each word must be faithful to the original languages of the Bible, and each word must reflect clear, contemporary English.” I can’t even imagine Dorothy undertaking such a task as this and committing years of time to completing this wonderful work for women.

“I have mastered the British afternoon tea,” she told me, and we plan to get together and spend time together over tea. She and Lifeway Christian Publishing have graciously provided us with three copies of The Study Bible for Women to give away.

  1. Well, with all the other comments before me I am sure I am too late, however; my Bible is so used and falling apart. I have made so many notes in it and that is why I hesitate buying a new one. If you have not already given your free copy of this Beautiful Bible I would love to have one.

Thanks so much, I LOVE your magazine and this is the first time that I have taken the time to check out your blog “theribboninmyjournal”

    Thanks Again
    Melinda

  2. I live and breath the Word of God. I am a Radio Personality “The Journey Radio Program”, a contemporary Christmas Singer/Songwriter, an author and Conference Speaker, so the Bible is a part of everything in my daily life. I LOVE God passionately and I love people too. This Bible would be a wonderful addition to my studies. By the way, as founder of The Las Vegas Ladies Tea Society, I was featured in Tea Time Magazine September/October 2011 and beautiful Lorna Reeves is a dear and personal friend:) Lorna has visited my home here in Lake Las Vegas!.

  4. My minister husband passed away just before Christmas last year. He was a student at Southeastern Seminary when the Patterson’s served there. Recently, for what would have been our 38th wedding anniversary and his 59th birthday, and because of my husband’s compassion toward ministerial students, God led me to send a gift to the family living in the townhouse our family called home 20 years ago. Since then, the young ministerial wife and mother of two very young children and I have become friends. I would love to bless her with this special Study Bible to help her as serves in ministry with her husband and trains her children in the ways of the Lord.

  5. What a wonderful give-away. I would love to win this as I have my regular Bible for Church, but have never had a study bible. What a great way to begin a new year.

  8. This year, my New Year’s resolution was to read the Bible in its entirety, with understanding. This is one resolution that I have kept–and continue, day by day. A Bible that is a feast for a lady’s eyes would be the perfect compliment to the nourishment the Word gives to the soul.

  12. I have just recently found an amazing minister & church online. I am in Ohio & the church is in Tenn., unfortunately. Having just retired from 42 years of social work at my hospital last week and reflecting on what lies ahead which includes spending personal time now that I have it to shore up my personal beliefs by studying the Bible, this book sounds wonderfully fitting to reflect on feminine beliefs related to the Bible and it will now be on my reading list. 23. I was given a women’s study Bible years ago, although not as pretty as these, and I really enjoyed the devotionals they offered. I still flip through it from time to time looking for a devotional that meets me where I am at that time. I would love a new copy with fresh devotions.

  26. The cherished Bible that I now use is engraved on the cover with my full maiden name. It was given to me by my parents on my 16th birthday. This month I will be 70. I keep this special Bible beside my bed for daily reading and take it with me to Church on Sunday. The pages are loose, the spine is weak, the cover is fraying. I don’t want to replace it, but it would be such a blessing to have this beautiful Study Bible for Women as a guide for reading and understanding,

  33. The samples are beautiful! And I’m thrilled to know about this new version. I have been shopping for a new Bible, particularly looking for something with a little larger print as the years tick by! 🙂 But, I’m also reluctant to give up my well worn and highlighted version!

I am so thankful for the time and love that has gone into this bible, and thankful for the chance to win one 🙂

  35. What a wonderful idea. A bible for women to read and study the word of God from a woman’s perspective. I realize that biblical times were male dominated but we women have become move involved as biblical teachers, and church leaders; a bible such as this would service us well knowing that what we are saying from a woman’s perspective is biblically accurate and we would have the bible to back us up. Please let us know when this bible becomes available for sale to the public. If I’m not a winner I can be a shopper. Thanks for the ground floor opportunity.

  36. This bible would truly be a blessing to add to my sister’s and my daily devotionals. It is lovely and such an undertaking. Blessings to Dorothy.

  37. My husband is pastor of our small church plant and at his encouragement I’ve started a woman’s study on biblical womanhood. Having a resource like the woman’s study bible would be such a blessing and aid with my studies.

  41. I would love to have a copy of this Bible. As a working woman it is sometimes very hard for me to set aside special time for my time with the Lord. I would love to have a Bible with a woman’s touch. God made exceptional women for His ministry and I greatly admire those who can answer His call. Also my daughter, Suzanne, is a Mother of a son with Asperger Syndrome and we have been thru some trying days lately with him. She is a very strong spiritual Christian and her faith is deeply founded in the Lord. You can never get enough of God’s Word and both of us would love to have this special book.

  42. I have gotten out of the habit of daily Bible reading. I confess have come to rely on spoken communications. However- there is a chord in the human spirit which is reached by tactile senses- and the scents of a real book read by candlelight. It would be lovely to begin again with this study aid. Should I be so fortunate as to win a copy, I promise to marvel at the love and respect of meaningful words transported through the ages-with full expectation to share a message as contemporary as it is classic.

  46. A quote comes to mind, but I must admit I don’t remember who to give credit to, it says a Bible falling apart usually indicates a life that isn’t. I turned 65 this year. As a person ages I suppose it is only natural to reflect on your life. There have been many “bumps in the road” as my husband calls them, but looking back I know it was God’s Word that sustained us. I saved the Study Bible for Women to my Pinterest page titled The Inspired Word of God. I continue to be inspired and awed by the peace, the wisdom, and the guidance that flows from God’s Word. I love this concept of a “pretty, feminine, Bible, and would be honored to receive this study Bible.

  48. I would enjoy winning a copy of this study Bible. I am currently in my first Bible study class, though I’ve been attending Church all my adult life. There is so much I need to learn but some of the Bibles are so hard to understand!

  49. What a wealth of information you are. You lift us up every day. Thank you.

I am ever amazed at the great things women do …quietly … and ofter without any recognition at all. And for that matter, men too. The human individual is so blessed with talent from the hand of God that everyone has a story. I just read two such stories today and my own morning newspaper and was so happy to know about the wonderful things these individuals have done to effect the lives of others. Each of us has an opportunity to be a blessing……now, let’s go and be about it. Blessings on you Phyllis. Hugs, Ruth

  51. I have read the bible, but at times I don’t understand the meanings, of most passages. I would appreciate a book of readings designed especially for woman to understand in this world. I am 72 years old, and I would like to communicate with my children and grandchildren and not sound like I don’t know what I’m talking about. Dot De Luca.

  52. Hello,

This Bible would be a perfect Christmas gift for my friend who attends weekly Bible study. I would benefit, too, because we discuss what she has studied. Thanks!

  54. Thank you for including such an endeavor as this in your arsenal of wonderful accomplishments from women! My life is certainly richer for all the women you feature in your writing! We love you, Phyllis!

  55. This is an amazing story and I am so impressed with someone so dedicated to doing this interpretation.
I would be honored to win a copy of this Bible.

  58. A new Bible always awakens a new interest in reading it, living it, and sharing it. I would appreciate another chance to start all over in the road of life!!!

  59. I would love to have this Bible because I have found that reading a more contemporary language, increases my understanding quite a bit. I still like to hear the King James read aloud, but for studying purposes, I really like easily understood wording as long as it is true to the original translation.

  60. I would treasure a copy of this Bible also. I have been a Christian for approx. 20 years, and still struggle with understanding many passages, esp. the Old Testament. I could share this with my 95 y.o. mother-in-law who is not able to retain what she reads as well as she used to. I know she is hungering for God’s word.

  61. I would LOVE to win a copy of this Bible. I’m slightly familiar with Dorothy Patterson, and am fascinated and excited that she accomplished this amazing project.

  62. I would like to win this Bible to share with my daughter. I think she would really enjoy it, and I would love to encourage her study.

  63. It appeals to me because even though I am a pastor’s wife and have had years of Bible studies, I still struggle from with the old style of writing and terminology in most translations. This version sounds like those problems may have been worked through and would be more appealing to women.
I would very much like to read, and share this new edition / version.

  64. How interesting that this came to my attention today. I recently found my college notes from a course entitled Women in the Bible. I read them and was amazed at some of my thoughts and the professor thoughts. So I have been interested in this concept since then. College was 43 years ago but know I have the time to study His Word more in depth.

  65. I would love to give this to my daughter. It is my desire and prayer that she will grow in faith into a strong woman of God.

  66. I am currently using my 13 year old son’s bible (he has moved onto the digital format)! Mine is just old so I switched to his…. I could really use a more “girly/adult” looking version!!!

  67. I would love to win a copy of this Bible because I love God and my family and I want to serve them both. I think this Bible would help me in my walk with the Lord.
