Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July!

I love a good strawberry dessert. I remember my Grandmother Norton’s strawberry ice cream that she made in the freezer of her refrigerator. She had a small aluminum loaf pan that she used for her ice cream. Unfortunately, I don’t remember the whole recipe. All I know is that it had sweetened condensed milk and strawberries and that it didn’t take long for us kids to empty the pan!

This Strawberry Ice Box Sheet Pan Pie reminds me of her. The recipe is wonderful just as it is but you can make it an extra festive dish with the addition of fresh blueberries! Create an American flag design by garnishing with blueberries arranged in a square on the top left and cover the rest with quartered strawberries. I hope you have a beautiful Fourth of July and that you will make this wonderful dessert for your favorite people!

    1. I wish I had my grandmothers recipe. She probably just added a little of this and a little of that…..but I know it had sweetened condensed milk. Everything dessert she made had it as the main ingredient. Her food was always delicious.

  3. Hi Phyllis, I remember a frozen strawberry dessert from my youth also! I am certain the recipe was printed on the blue and white C&H confectioners sugar box. It contained frozen strawberries (thawed), confectioners sugar, and I think whipped cream. There was no such thing as Cool Whip in those days! I believe there were one or two other ingredients also, but I can’t remember. My sister, 5 years younger, remembers how good it was but not how to make it. We froze it in a couple aluminum ice cube trays with the inserts removed. This was the mid-fifties. I contacted C&H a few years ago, but they do not have an archive of label recipes. I wonder if any of your followers have the recipe??? Happy and safe 4th to all.

  4. What a beautiful pie for celebrating anything in summer.

Wishing you and all of your readers a meaningful Independence Day, which just happened to fall on the 4th of July. Keeping children safe from fireworks will keep it happy.

  5. I will try this for my husband’s birthday next weekend. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you and your family a Happy 4th!

  6. This looks delicious. I love that kind of crumble crust.
I make a kind of no-churn ice cream with whipped cream (from scratch–I avoid the kind that contains all kinds of unpronounceable ingredients but no cream). It was very easy and tasty. With berries dropped inside. Looks gorgeous, too–I usually take it out of the loaf pan and slice it.
