The Ribbon in My Journal – Phyllis Hoffman DePiano

It’s Pumpkin Spice Season

Everyone that knows me understands that pumpkin spice season is sacred. I have already had a latte, cookies, and a cheesecake slice of pumpkin spice. I just love spice anything, really. This past weekend, one of my dearest friends presented me with a pillow that says, “Pumpkin Spice Season!” She is the same one who gave me my pumpkin spice latte socks last year. Now, since she doesn’t like pumpkin spice, I am sensing that she is mocking just a tad, but nevertheless—It’s here!

I don’t know why, but the aroma of autumn spices just delights me to no end. I use cinnamon and nutmeg throughout the year, but when autumn comes, I just can’t get enough. I am totally amazed at the crazy products that appear for enthusiasts like me, and this year, the one that I couldn’t believe was Pumpkin Spice Spam. I looked it up on the Internet, and it’s true. So really, I don’t care, but what in the world? I laughed when I read that this killed the 16-year pumpkin spice craze.

And the one I kind of don’t understand is the pumpkin spice shower gel. Now, let’s see—you bathe and then smell like a pumpkin pie. Hmm…I must think that one through.

My dear friend Sister Shubert has pumpkin spice rolls in the frozen foods section, so you can bet I am going to stock up on these delicacies. Her rolls are to die for, and to think she added pumpkin spice—well, she is my new hero!

Ok, enough; so tell me what is the most unusual pumpkin spice item you have found this year?
